Facts for farmers at Foundation Farm
The Agforce Grains Industry Update held at the Pacific Seeds Foundation Farm at Allora last Friday proved to be a valuable opportunity for local farmers to keep up to date with the industry.
In attendance included growers, agronomists, key note speakers and industry representatives.
Andrew Sinnamon, South East Regional Manager for AgForce Queensland, said the key topic for discussion at the event was understanding the new chain of responsibility laws and how to manage risk.
Guest speaker Michael Crellin addressed this issue while AgForce Grains Director Cam Parker discussed Queensland grains advocacy and the current priorities for AgForce.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads were on hand on the day to update attendees on what they needed to know to ensure their vehicles were suitable in the lead up to harvest, while the day’s hosts Pacific Seeds provided an overview of Foundation Farms.
As preparation continues for spring planting, Foundation Farm staff are trying a variety of different things, including planting corn, both grain and forage sorghum, wheat, barley, canola and chickpeas.
At Foundation Farm, Pacific Seeds is looking into a variety of treatments on both irrigated and dry land as well as research on crop phenology in conjunction with the University of Queensland, looking at canola, wheat, barley and chickpeas.
The University of Southern Queensland also used Foundation Farm for their research into sesame.
