Exciting new development for local women’s shed

Did you manage to visit the Pittsworth Women’s Shed this week? March 2-10 highlights the variety and breadth of Women’s Sheds across Australia during National Women’s Shed Week, and Pittsworth’s own group has some exciting new prospects on the horizon this year, with the recent approval of its new shed at the Pioneer Village.

Open Monday through to Wednesday each week, the Pittsworth Women’s Shed is a dedicated group of crafty ladies.

They make a number of creations including pencil cases, library bags, toiletry bags, table runners, place mats, knee quilts, aprons, tote bags, glasses cases, key holders, clothing, fabric baskets and much more.

Many of their crafts are donated to various charities.

They also have an abundance of scrap fabric supplies, and more are always welcome to be donated.

Currently, the group works out of the rooms at Sondrio on 67 in Yandilla Street but Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has recently approved an application for a new shed to be built at the Pioneer Village.

The proposed development seeks to introduce a new shed with a gross floor area of 180m2.

The shed will comprise a main activity area, kitchenette, lunch area and two store rooms.

It is intended that the shed will be open to women of all ages, noting that while membership options are available, women will not require a membership to attend.

Once the new building is completed, the Women’s Shed still intends to continue to operate between the hours of 9am to 3pm Monday to Wednesday.

However, as the shed will form part of the Pittsworth Pioneer Historical Village, it will also be open on additional days where tour groups are taken around the Village to showcase the range of activities on the site.

This exciting new build will be a game changer for the current 20 women’s shed members, who recently moved from their building at 1 Yandilla Street.

The group will be hosting an upcoming table runner workshop on 13th March, and all are welcome to participate.

There’s no need to bring anything but yourself!

Anyone can come along and join the Pittsworth Women’s Shed - being crafty and creative is not a prerequisite.
