Excellence in Leadership Award for St. Monica’s educator
A dedicated team member from St. Monica’s School at Oakey is among outstanding educators and staff from Toowoomba Catholic Schools who were celebrated at their annual Excellence Awards.
One of the award recipients on the evening was Rebecca McGregor who is Middle Leader and Assistant Principal: Religious Education at St Monica’s.
Ms McGregor said she was delighted to receive the Excellence in Leadership - Middle Leadership Award.
She started in the city office of Toowoomba Catholic Schools in 2018 as Education Officer: Literacy, which saw her cover schools across the Diocese.
By 2021 Ms McGregor was missing being in the school environment, so when a position came up at St. Monica’s she applied and was successful.
She had an immediate impact on teaching and learning when she commenced her work at the school.
With faith and exceptional pedagogy as her foundation, Ms McGregor promoted collective responsibility and accountability for student achievement and wellbeing.
Her willing dedication to leading professional development, collaborative planning and teaching, and genuine interest in each individual soon became a model for others.
She now spends two days a week in Middle Leadership, two days on Religious Education and one day teaching Art, which she loves, as it keeps her in touch with classroom activity.
The award citation said Ms McGregor’s selfless actions and genuine care and concern for the academic, spiritual and psychological growth of
all staff and students make her a leader people want to follow.
The awards identify and showcase practitioners who model, demonstrate and live excellence in their roles, all day, every day.
This year close to 100 nominations from across the Toowoomba Diocese were received.

“We thank all of our finalists and recognise the invaluable contribution they make to both staff and students’ lives,” Dr Coughlan said.
