Ex-High School captain runs for Showgirl
Fresh off being a leader at Oakey State High School last year, dance academy instructor Alyssa Rodighiero from Kingsthorpe is now running to be the 2025 Oakey Showgirl.
Alyssa said she was inspired to run by the number of young women at the iDance Studios who have filled the role, including founder Carla Tierney, and most recently 2023 Showgirl Katie Reeves.
Alyssa says she is going for Showgirl to show the girls at the Academy how to be a better role model within the community.
“I’d like to show them how they can put themselves out there and be a bit more confident,” she said.
Alyssa, who was this year nominated for Oakey Young Citizen of the Year, has had experience performing at the show with iDance, who are regular participants.
When asked about the attributes she’d bring to the role, Alyssa thought and said:
“I work well with others and take on feedback.
“Last year, there was a bit of bullying at school, and we were able to go to people and sort it out.
“I’d like to come up with different ways to bring younger kids into the Show."
