Eat Street showcases culture
Over 200 people sampled cuisines from different cultures across the Indo-Pacific at Oakey PCYC’s first “Eat Street” event held in May at Bicentennial Park.
The event, which was delayed from the 5th May to the 26th was well worth the wait.
Sharon Hardy served up Mexican Food in her spud van, along with nachos and tacos.
The Oakey Recaffeinator Van kept people awake and energised for the duration of the evening.
Chief Sudha served up Indian Food, and the line at this food truck was strong throughout the two hours of the event.
The now former Oakey State High School and Oakey State School chaplain Sharon Salomon cooked up lamb rolls, with the help of some of her family and friends.
Robert Sampson’s OMG Donuts proved extremely popular, with the 20-minute wait time giving people the chance to groove along to some of Papa Eddie Dean’s beats.
Donna Taylor with “Pop’n’Frost” offered up sno-cones.
Papa Eddie and some members of the Oakey Bears women’s team served Cook Island food, with this tent attracting several volunteers from the community in Oakey.
Besides helping run the show, Oakey PCYC’s AJ Ma Chong also found time to cook some Samoan food.
The choice of location at Bicentennial Park was a good one, as the building, trees and food trucks helped provide shelter from the wind.
The atmosphere was vibrant with people coming from Toowoomba.
