The second Oakey Eat Street event, held at the Rotary Park, was an even bigger success than the first one, with some locals suggesting it should be moved to a sporting oval.

The citizens of Oakey celebrated the diaspora of people in our town from different nations and cultures.

Many different types of food were on offer, including Peruvian, Brazilian, Indian, Cook Islander, Aboriginal Australian, Mexican and some of Oakey’s local culinary staples.

Rotary Park was packed for the occasion, with some residents suggesting that the event should be moved to a school oval, or the Federal Sporting Fields to accommodate the large crowds.

Lighting was also an issue for some, who asked whether overhead lights would be a possibility.

Oakey Chamber of Commerce President Andrew Langton said the success of the event was a testament to the people involved.

“It’s a very important even to Oakey itself,” he said.

“We’ve found it brings extra people to the town.

“It also benefits the other cafés and businesses.

“Everyone I’ve talked to has been very happy with how the event has gone.

“Anything we can do to highlight how good Oakey is and put it on the map.”

Mr Langton said the Chamber was planning more upcoming local events.

“The Carnival of Flowers is something to look forward  to,” he said.

“We’re also madly planning for Santa Fair on the 9th December (at Oakey Bears RLFC).

“Anyone who wants to get involved and help volunteer is most welcome.”
