Dunny races and raft races headline Oakey Australia Day

Oakey’s nationally famous Australia Day celebrations are returning this year at Arthur Shooter Park.

Oakey’s nationally famous Australia Day celebrations are returning this year at Arthur Shooter Park.

The day’s schedule will look something like this.

7:30 - Breakfast (catered for by Oakey Junior Rugby League)

8:30 - Awards Ceremony

Oakey District Community Group of the Year

Oakey District Junior Sports Award

Oakey District Senior Sports Award

Oakey District Cultural Award

Oakey District Young Citizen of the Year

Oakey District Citizen of the Year

Oakey District Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Citizen of the Year

9:15 - Morning tea (put on by Oakey Historical Museum Society).

The fun and games will then start at 9.30am, with wild competition such as billy boiling, sack races, thong-throwing, wheelie bin races along with raft races in the creek, dunny races and a tug-o-war competition. 

One of the major contests will be the Bernborough Tavern Iron Man Challenge.

There will also be an inflatable slide for the kids.

“We wanted it to be held a couple of years ago and TRC wanted us to go to Picnic  Point, and we appreciate the support of the Oakey community in keeping it local. Bring a chair or blanket,” Chairperson of the Oakey Australia Day committee Fay Telford said.
