District ready to mark ANZAC Day 2022
Officials of R.S.L. Sub-Branches across the district have finalised plans for their annual ANZAC Day commemorations on Monday next, the 25th of April, most beginning the day with their annual Dawn Service.
CLIFTON
At Clifton the day will begin at 5.25am with a Dawn Service at the Cenotaph on Edward Street.
The service will be followed by the traditional Gunfire Breakfast at the F. E. Logan Hall on Meara Place.
The main service will be the 11am commemoration, also at the Cenotaph.
This will be preceded by a march, participants in which will assemble in Meara Place before moving along King Street at 10.45am.
Following the commemoration members of the public will be able to join ex-service personnel at a barbecue/sausage sizzle at the F. E. Logan Hall from midday.
ALLORA
At Allora there will be a Dawn Service at the Allora War Memorial Garden at 5.30am, followed by a Gunfire Breakfast in the R.S.L. Hall, which will be open to the public.
At 9.30am a Memorial Service will be held at the Allora Cemetery.
The day’s main commemoration will begin with a march along Herbert and Warwick Streets, reaching the Allora Cenotaph for a service beginning at 11am.
GREENMOUNT
Local schools will recognise the ANZAC legend, including a service at Emu Creek State School this Friday, 22nd April, at 2.15pm.
The commemoration will last for about 30 minutes and is open to the community.
The traditional service at Greenmount will begin with a short march down Ramsay Street before the formalities start at 10am.
A feature of this year’s Greenmount service will be the address by former local resident Captain Candice Priebbenow, a born and raised Greenmount local who is returning for the day to join in honouring those previously and currently serving our great country.
Candice started her schooling at Emu Creek State School from Pre-school to Year 3, then transferred to Greenmount State School for the remainder of her primary years.
She moved on to Clifton High School to complete her schooling years.
In 2011 Candice was successful in joining the Australian Army and started her aviation career by first completing a degree with the Australian Defence Force Academy.
She commissioned to the rank of Lieutenant after graduating from the Royal Military College Duntroon, at the end of 2013.
Her flight training started in Tamworth flying the CT4 in 2014.
Next was Oakey where she achieved her helicopter wings in 2015, with all the local family present for this great day.
While awaiting Chinook training, she completed AS350 Squirrel training with the Navy. Finally in 2016, she was off to Fort Rucker in Alabama to undergo CH47F Chinook training.
While based at Townsville Candice was promoted to the rank of Captain, and with her training she has been able to not only support defence training and operations but has also assisted the community during Cyclone Debbie, the North Queensland floods, the bushfires in Victoria and New South Wales in 2019-20 and while in Papua New Guinea she was part of a contingent which airlifted supplies and staff to vaccinate for Polio in the outer regions.
Candice has thoroughly enjoyed her work in serving the nation.
In 2021 she deployed as the Australian contribution to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation as a military observer in Lebanon for eight months.
She now is based in Canberra working in the Defence Flight Safety Bureau.
LEYBURN
ANZAC Day at Leyburn begins at 5am with Coffee Royale at the R.S.L. Hall and Museum in Warwick Street, followed by a Dawn Service at the adjacent Memorial at 5.45am.
That will be followed by a Gunfire Breakfast from 7am at the R.S.L. Hall.
The parade ahead of the main service will leave Macintyre Street at 9.15am.
The commemoration will begin at 9.30am at Liberator Place, after which morning tea will be served at the Q.C.W.A. Hall.
There will be traditional games of two-up at the R.S.L. from 11.30am, with a barbecue lunch also on offer.
