District dodged a bullet

The local district has avoided any major problems in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, which devastated communities across a wide area east of the range.

The greatest local impact was a rise in some streams - a strong fresh went through Dalrymple Creek and heavy rain over the headwaters of the Condamine River sent plenty of water rushing westward.

The local rain varied in intensity but, with the possible exception of farmers whose sorghum was not ready to harvest, was generally welcomed after a prolonged dry spell.

Kings Creek and Hodgson Creek barely rose yet Dalrymple Creek and the Condamine River saw flooding above the minor level at different points.

Dalrymple Creek at Allora peaked at 4.94 metres at midnight on Monday,
just below the moderate flood level of 5 metres and well above the minor flood level of 3 metres.

The Condamine River reached the minor flood level at Warwick on Monday evening and was above the moderate flood level at Talgai on Tuesday morning.

At the peak on Sunday morning, there were well over 20,000 properties in the Toowoomba Region without power mostly in the eastern Toowoomba and Highfields areas.

There was a small power outage on Sunday affecting 22 customers at Elphinstone, Sandy Camp and the western edge of Clifton.

The clean up begins for our neighbours in the Lockyer Valley who were faced with a torrent of water on Monday morning, flooding numerous roads including the Warrego Highway and forcing the evacuation of many residents.
