Denny is final bound
Allora's Matthew Denny has made the final of the men's discus throw at the Olympics after finishing third in his heat and fourth overall.
With a longest throw of 65.13 metres, Denny is well poised to challenge for a podium finish at the final, which is on tomorrow night from approximately 8pm to 10:55pm.
Reigning discus throw world champion Daniel Ståhl of Sweden came in first place during today's qualifications, ahead of Lithuania's Andrius Gudzius and Slovenia's Kristjan Čeh, who had longest throws of 65.94 metres and 65.45 metres respectively, followed by Denny.
Denny's 65.13 metre throw was his second, following his first throw of 61.58 metres and preceding his third throw of 64.98 metres.
With a personal best of 65.47 metres, set in New Zealand last year, Denny will have to be at his best to end up with a medal around his neck.
A throw of 65.43 metres at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar saw Denny finish sixth.
