David Sipple is CDCA Player of the Year
Although the 2020/21 Central Downs Cricket season belonged to Bowenville Cricket Club, Kulpi’s David Sipple was named Central Downs Cricket Association (CDCA) Player of the Year at the recent Grand Final.
Sipple scored the most runs for the season with 590 and took 12 wickets.
He also won the trophy for the highest individual score with 139 not out.
His team mates Lachlan Campbell took most wickets (17), and Craig Skuse captured the most wicket-keeping dismissals trophy, for the third season in a row, with 14.
The batting average trophy went to 16 year old Arshvir Singh from Bowenville with 79.66, while Ajay Kumar had the best bowling average with 11.11.
Chaz Cheatley, Bowen-ville’s young gun, had the best bowling performance taking 6 for 23 off 8 overs.
His 16 wickets and 243 runs made him the clear winner for the Under 18 Player of the Year.
Bowenville’s captain, Danny Johnstone, took most catches while Pittsworth’s Lachie Salgado and Kulpi’s Marcus Frizzell shared best fielder accolades.
Best Fielder is based on nominations by opposition captains.CDCA Rep Player of the Year went to Harjinder Dhillon of Bowenville.
Major team shields were won by Bowenville starting with the Sandy Hoopert Memorial Trophy for the First Round, and the Chicken/Madsen Shield for the Second Round.
A new T20 competition was held during CDCA fixtures and the prize was The Bell Family Shield.
The Bowenville Club was successful in this competition, but their dream run continued on.
They were Minor Premiers and ultimately won grand final and the Ted and Val Fiechtner Memorial Shield.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP
After more than 20 years of involvement in CDCA as a player and an administrator, Millmerran’s Brett French was honoured with Life Membership of the association.
As a cricketer, he achieved the top performance awards in CDCA, from Under 18 Player of the Year (2003/04) to three-time CDCA Player of the Year.
French was part of the Millmerran team when it won its last premiership victory in 2009/10 and captained the CDCA rep side in the Mitchell Shield competition that same season.
Serving ten years as Association Secretary (in two five-year stints) Brett balanced his secretarial and administration duties as he continued to play the game. - Lindsay Evans
