Darling Downs roads claiming more lives
Queensland Police have released new statistics that show deaths on roads on the Darling Downs have increased from 21 in 2021 to 23 for the same period in 2022.

This statistic becomes more alarming when a comparison of fatalities of all 15 Police Districts is made as the Darling Downs has the highest number of fatalities being equal with the Far Northern Region and Capricornia Region.
Despite there being more vehicles on Brisbane roads fatalities were significantly less than on rural roads.
Overall Queensland road fatalities increased from 197 in 2021 to 214 for the same period in 2022.
In response to these statistics Queensland Police are beginning a crack down on dangerous driver behaviours, called Operation Spring Break, beginning Saturday 17th September to Monday 3rd October.
Police across the state will be conducting high visibility and overt patrols, speed detection and static and mobile Random Breath Testing (RBT).
Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus said peak periods like school holidays often mean a higher occurrence of traffic crashes as travellers navigate long distances in unfamiliar locations.
“It is vital motorists take responsibility on our roads, ensuring everyone gets home safely starts with decisions you make behind the wheel,” Asst. Commissioner Marcus said.
“You can expect police anytime all year round but these school holidays, Operation Spring Break will see police out visibly in force.”
