A Grade

Returning home to the Kennel, the Danes took on second-place Gatton on the weekend.

The Danes started poorly in defence, lacking the intent and first contact that has become a staple of the team.

Gatton made Pittsworth pay quickly with an early try before the Danes kicked through a try to Kyle Brose.

The next 20 minutes saw the Danes create plenty of opportunities but lacked the patience to capitalise.

Coming out after half-time down 18-6, Pittsworth’s defence was again found wanting as Gatton ran in points quickly to take a 30-12 lead.

On a positive note, the red and green again finished strongly putting Gatton under pressure with a 30-22 scoreline late.

Unfortunately, the risks required to chase points late in the game weren’t fruitful and Pittsworth couldn’t overcome the deficit ultimately going down 34-22.

The last two weeks have shown the Danes are right there with the top sides of the competition, however need to improve at making the opposition pay when the Danes have momentum.

Next week they take on Valleys in another Sunday afternoon clash at the Kennel.

Reserve Grade

An improved performance by the Reserve Grade team from last week at Clifton, but still not good enough to secure the win against Gatton.

In front of the Pittsworth home crowd, with plenty of good ball in strong field position, a lack of composure and mistakes from key players left the Danes unable to complete opportunities.

Defensively the side improved from the previous week although Gatton was able to wear down the Danes, through ball control and eventually run out winners 22-16.

A steep slide down the ladder to 7th place means the team will need to work hard to remain in top 5 contention.

Players votes went to Matthew Reynolds, Kaleb Reynolds and Jackson McInnes.

Under 19

Pittsworth started the game with poor completion and having to defend back-to-back sets for 20 minutes.

They finally realised it’s easier to hold onto the ball and did so, even scoring some tries to get close to Gatton coming into half time.

After the break the Danes still seemed to be asleep, and Gatton got away to a good start.

With 15 minutes to go unfortunately one of Pittsworth’s players was sent to the showers early.

But it did spark something.

After being down by five tries, the Danes played their way back to being within eight points, but unfortunately ran out of time and Gatton got the chocolates.

Ethan Brose, Lauchlan Thompson and Callum Burke were excellent again for Pittsworth.
