To commemorate Anzac Day, the Pittsworth RSL Sub-branch and 11th Lighthorse Darling Downs Troop were involved and Ashford McEwan from Pittsworth State High School played The Last Post in front of the home crowd.

There was also a shot gun start by Kym Flehr and his horse George from the 11th Lighthorse for the A Grade match.

A GRADE

The Danes took on the Tigers at Club Pittsworth on Saturday night.

Scores were locked at 4-all for much of the first half in a tight tussle, before Souths were able to break the deadlock with a try just minutes before half time to take a 10-4 lead into the break.

A slow start to the second stanza saw the Danes concede 3 tries in the opening 15 minutes which saw the deficit blow out to 26-4.

Showing resilience, the Danes managed to fight back to get a try, but it was too little too late with Souths holding on to win 26-20.

Best for the Danes were Jordan O’Shea who scored 2 tries, along with Laurie Jocumsen and Tom Jeffrey.

Everyone enjoy this weekend off and see you all at our next home game Sunday 8th May the when the Danes take on Gundy.

RESERVES

Saturday night saw the Reserve Grade Danes take on Souths at home.

Our team turned up with the right attitude, completing sets and helping each other out in defence to take a healthy lead into half time.

After the break our boys had a lapse in discipline and ball security, allowing the Tigers to score a couple of easy tries.

Pittsworth were able to wrestle back momentum with some well executed attacking sets, topped off by a short side line break by a flying Sam Moy who offloaded to Players’ Player James Sinclair for the try that took the game away from Souths, with Pittsworth eventually winning the match 32-18.

Thank you  for the local support and we hope to see you all again in a fortnight for another home game against Goondiwindi.

UNDER 19

This week the boys had their first look at one of the Ipswich teams that have entered the 19s competition.

As you could imagine the opposition were very large lads but in an impressive display from our boys up front, we stuck it to them for a majority of the game.

Joel Keevers and Mason Bloom had a lot of very good touches out wide and were two of our best.

Our defence this weekend was very strong through the middle with a few late tries spoiling our day.

Limited numbers at training have made it difficult to work on any sort of attacking structures which showed in the game with a lot of errors and the inability to capitalise on our opportunities in attacking positions.

With May long weekend next week and then a bye the week after, we have a good opportunity to get stuck into some hard work for a couple weeks.

See you all at training Tuesday.
