Cricket returns for 2021 summer
The 40 over Central Downs Cricket competition began with last year’s Premiers Bowenville playing Kulpi while in the other match Pittsworth took on Millmerran.
BOWENVILLE VS KULPI
The 2021 summer season began with an elimination final rematch between Bowenville and Kulpi.
Having won the toss and electing to bowl, Kulpi wasted no time in getting down to business, striking within the first five overs through Tyson Klingberg.
There wasn’t much to say for the Bowenville innings except that they will be wanting to put this game behind them, scoring only 22 runs – the lowest ever recorded total in Central Downs.
However, for Kulpi, it was immaculate bowling from Tyson Klingberg who collected all but one wicket, finishing 9/8 in 7.3 overs – the best ever bowling innings recorded in Central Downs since the incorporation of MyCricket.
Jordan Klingberg claimed the remaining wicket, finishing 1/3 (2); Nick Spies, also bowling five overs, only conceded nine runs.
Chasing the lowest ever total, Kulpi wrapped up the game in four overs, however the loss of three wickets was somewhat unexpected, but didn’t dampen the spirits of the team who won the match by seven wickets.
Justin Reck, 1/10 (1); Chris Morgan, 1/8 (1); and Isaiah Gill, 1/3 (1) all collected a wicket.
PITTSWORTH VS MILLMERRAN
The second match of the week was played at the Pittsworth Sports Ground where Pittsworth played the 2020/21 runners-up.
Being sent in to bat, Millmerran found them-selves on the back foot early, losing a wicket on the last ball of the first over.
Daniel Betts and Mitch Albury settled in to bat for a 60 run partnership before Betts fell for 34.
Albury was the best with the bat for Millmerran, finishing with 47 runs at a rate of just less than a run-a-ball.
Millmerran was bowled out in 34 overs for 152 runs with Jordan O’Shea dealing most of the damage with the ball, claiming three wickets in his four overs.
Wicket takers for Pittsworth were Jordan O’Shea, 3/14 (4); Will Hanlon, 2/24 (4); Sam McGinn, 1/9 (3); James Ellison, 1/15 (5); Chris Bauld, 1/16 (4); and Lachie Salgado, 1/27 (6).
Pittsworth opened well with Mark Holt (49) and Ed McGinn (30) who batted for a 69 run partnership through 19 overs before Holt was caught.
From there, wickets fell with Pittsworth unable to reach the total, bowled all out for 123 with an over to spare, a 29 run win for Millmerran.
Mitch Fowler was the best with the ball for Millmerran, picking up 3/4 from five overs, along with Lachlan Folker, 2/11 (4); Dom Briggs, 2/13 (4); and Shannon Horston, 1/11 (4.1).
Bowenville will look to come back firing against Millmerran next week at Millmerran; and Pittsworth will play away from home against Kulpi at Goombungee.
