The morning was organised by the Pittsworth District Alliance (PDA) to give locals the opportunity to meet and greet the candidates running for local council.

Candidates who were about on Friday included Ellisa Parker, Robert Relvas, Paul Wilson, Bill Cahill, Rebecca Vonhoff, Andrew Reeson, Melissa Taylor, Tim McMahon, James O’Shea, Kerry Shine and Mark Orford.

Mayoral candidates Douglas Doelle, and Geoff McDonald were also in town.

Others who visited last week included Gary Gardner and Trevor Manteuful.

The main points of discussion were roads, water, rates, footpaths and the idea of an off leash dog park.

PDA secretary Belinda McKinlay said that with community grants currently open, a collaborative approach might work best between council and the community, to transform these new ideas, such as the off leash dog park, into reality.

The PDA has already applied for three grants this week:

• A community grant for storage, tables and equipment.

• An economic development grant for historic signs to be placed in the main street about business history, and the town’s cheese and dairy history.

• The third is for the Christmas in Pittsworth event (previously called Christmas in the Park).

The logistics and expenses of running this program, have seen the PDA apply for an event support grant.

With the costs involved in closing Park Street, and the limited space available at Centenary Park, the event is going to be held at the showgrounds this year.

The PDA gifted each candidate in attendance a take home bag with flyers on the upcoming Showcasing Pittsworth Weekend, the Craft and Fine Food Spectacular,  and the newly published Pittsworth & District book.

Millmerran will be holding a council candidates forum for the community on March 11 from 6.30pm.
