More than 150 people of all ages donned hard hats to tour the new building.

Among them, a Millmerran aged care resident Josephine, who was excited to select her new room in the facility’s residential aged care unit ‘Bringalily’.

A Darling Downs Health representative said they have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community.

At the open day, many residents shared heartwarming stories about their multigenerational connections with the health service in Millmerran.

Health Service Chief Executive, Annette Scott PSM, said this facility is another significant milestone for public healthcare across the Darling Downs.

“It’s incredible to see construction reaching the final stages after breaking ground early last year,” Ms Scott said.

“Hospitals and health services are integral to the community, and this new, contemporary facility will enhance access to healthcare for residents in Millmerran and the surrounding areas.

The single storey building, located on the existing multipurpose health service campus, will offer a wide range of services including an eight bed inpatient unit, five bed residential aged care space, dedicated acute and non-acute areas, and a new helipad.

The facility is on track to open in May, and until that point, patients can continue to access high-quality care at the existing facility.

Darling Downs Health Executive Director Rural, Dr Chris Cowling said the current Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service, which was built in the early 1950s, had serviced the community well but the upgraded facility will better address Millmerran’s growing healthcare needs.

“I’d like to express my gratitude to our staff for their dedication to providing exceptional care to the community.

“Once the new facility is operational, the existing building will be demolished to create space for a new driveway, drop off area, carpark, and landscaping,” Dr Cowling said.

The Millmerran Multi-purpose Health Service  was funded by the Queensland Government’s $1.03 billion Building Rural and Remote Health program.

“Millmerran residents can take pride in their new facility and the high-quality care our team provides at every stage of their lives,” Ms Scott said.
