Community Grants winners thank TRC
A range of community groups around the Oakey district were successful in the latest round of Toowoomba Regional Council’s Grants Program. Here’s a full list of local winners.

Darling Downs Rifle Association 14,063.70
Category: Sport and Recreation
This grant was to purchase a Hexta electronic target system based on system performance, widespread use across Australia for long range shooting, high reliability, and ability to work with a wide range of projectile speeds.
The total cost of a ‘one range server, four targets’ Hexta system is $55,091.
The gap, after deducting a $35,000 Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant the Association received, is $20.091.
Of the gap, the club will provide $6027.30 (since there is no in-kind support that can be applied), and TRC was requested to fund the remaining $14,063.70.
The Hextra system is portable equipment and is affixed to the existing (target frame) infrastructure on a Rifle Range.
Darling Down Soaring Club $15,120.00
Category: Sport and Recreation
The Darling Downs Soaring Club bathroom block is in dire need of refurbishment.
Originally constructed in the 1960s, the bathroom block is outdated with cracked sinks, holes in the floor, poor lighting (at night), leaking taps, and numerous other downfalls which is a sight for sore eyes and poses as a danger to all stakeholders.
Additionally, the bath-room has components that are asbestos based which show its age and highlights the need for a bathroom refurbishment to align with current Australian Standards.
Gowrie Little Plain Hall $1500

Dean Perrett and Kylie Hogan are combining to hold a Country Music Concert in the Gowrie Little Plain Hall.
These types of concerts are held to provide cheap entertainment to the ageing community at a affordable price as we are supported by local retirement villages.

Boodua Hall: $3000 (over two grants

After last year’s success, the Hall will have another sit down comedy show which will include a supper/dinner. The Boodua Christmas Party is an already established annual community event.
It provides an opportunity for local residents of all ages to come together and celebrate Christmas and to connect.
“For the last couple of years we have had the support of the TRC event support grant and it has enabled this event to be a great success,” President Vivienne Bullock said.
Brymaroo Rodeo - $9800
Category: Event
Brymaroo Easter Saturday Rodeo showcases the local area and provides a fundraising opportunity for the committee and local non-profit organisations.
“Our event is affiliated with the National Rodeo Association and we hope to hold a full rodeo with all Open Men’s and Ladies events and some Junior events. Competitors from all South East Queensland areas, and some beyond, attend,” Rodeo President Kurt Wockner said.
“In recent years, we have also hosted a Junior Rodeo on Good Friday with the emphasis more on learning than competition as a number of senior competitors lend their guiding support to the competitors of the future.
“Our audience comes from all over Queensland, with some using it as a catchup with old friends and neighbours while some use the long break to enjoy some camping.
“Others are rodeo enthusiasts and others are looking for good country entertainment and hospitality.”
