McLean Care was awarded the Community Chest for the work of its staff in looking after Oakey’s older residents.

Bernborough Tavern owner Michael Carpenter was on hand to present an $880 cheque to McLean Care CWA House facility manager Di Henning.

Ms Henning said the money would be used to improve seating in the CWA House dining area.

This will consist of  specialised swivel-chairs for residents, which cost substantially more than regular seating.

Last week, the Oakey Champion celebrated the life of CWA House resident and World War II veteran Garney who turned 102.
