Colourful Goombungee
Every Spring the town of Goombungee explodes into a blaze of colour as the local jacaranda trees blossom and on one special day, the town celebrates.
From early on the Saturday morning of the event, Mocatta Street started to fill with locals and visitors from a wide area as the Jacaranda Day celebration moved into top gear.
This year’s crowd was probably the biggest yet seen in the town and parking was at a premium with side streets filled with vehicles.
The theme for this year’s event was centred around two icons - the historic Pioneer Arms Hotel and the QCWA.
The Pioneer Arms is celebrating 125 years this year and there were plenty of customers to help mark the occasion on Saturday.
While the Goombungee branch of QCWA was formed only in 1962, the local members maintain their strong presence in the district and uphold the 100-year-old traditions of the organisation.
Naturally, there were scones and pikelets along with a special song performed by Megan O’Brien.
