The St. Monica’s Primary School children played a marimba and ukuleles with carols, and the Oakey Voices led by Rev. Daphne Webster OAM of Oakey Uniting Church sang carols at the Oakey Historical Museum.

Kate Hughes and the St. Monica’s Primary School children played a marimba and ukuleles with carols, and the Oakey Voices led by Rev. Daphne Webster OAM of Oakey Uniting Church sang carols also.

The visitors came with chairs and rugs on which to sit, and we supplied hay bales, kindly donated by Chaz and Sally Burrell.

We didn’t have a Christmas tree, so one of our Museum’s ladders was decorated for the event.

The Museum gave the children a little gift for coming and the adults all received one of our Museum pens in appreciation for the evening.

After the carols, the Lions Club of Oakey sold sausages on bread and hamburgers with soft drinks for those in attendance.

The evening was enjoyed by all and, if everything goes well, we will possibly hold an event next year.

Those who attended  concurred with Fay’s assessment that the evening was very enjoyable.

St. Monica’s put in a commendable performance on the marimba, with Mrs Hughes having her troops well-drilled.

The Oakey Voices performed a selection of carols including O Holy Night, Joy to the World, O Come all Ye Faithful and Once in Royal David’s City.

The Oakey Voices will be performing again on 10th December Sunday afternoon at the Uniting Church for those that missed out.

Champion journalist Max Mayer volunteered his services for the occasion, and turned up in a Santa suit.

He performed Andy Williams’ classic It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year along with two traditional carols Lo, How A Rose E’er Blooming and O Come O Come Emmanuel.

It was a welcome sight to see the St. Monica’s kids having fun at the Museum.
