Charges laid after fire

A man has been charged after allegedly dumping a utility and setting it alight on the side of Sexton-Weise Road on Wednesday 1st March, during a crime spree.

The fire caused by the burnt out ute threatened properties on Sexton-Weise Road. 

The blaze sparked a grass fire which tracked east towards 240 Sexton-Weise Road, before being controlled by two fire crews and the Rural Fire Brigade.

Wildlife Rescuers were also on the scene. 

Police allege a North Toowoomba man gained access to a parked Holden Rodeo at a location on Kingsthorpe-Haden Road in Kingsthorpe before leaving the vehicle and dumping it at a 4AK Road, Oakey property last Tuesday night. 

 It will be further alleged that on that night, the man gained access to a Nissan Patrol that was parked at a 4AK Road, Oakey, property, before leaving the property in the vehicle, which was discovered burnt out last Wednesday.

The man has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and arson. 

He will face Toowoomba Magistrates Court on March 30.

Senior Constable Warren Schefe of Oakey Police said at least one of the vehicles had been left unlocked.

“Be vigilant about vehicle security,” he said.

“It’s nice to leave the windows open on a hot day, but it’s important to make sure your vehicle is attended.”
