Celebrating Their Diamond Anniversary

Who on earth would consider it a good idea to be married at 9am on Boxing Day?!

Celebrating Their Diamond Anniversary - feature photo

Well, in 1962, the young couple pictured, thought it was and, sixty years later, the extended family of Jack and Kate Gordon still consider it a great move.

As the story goes: after a few amorous dances, John Westcott Gordon of Allora cradle-snatched Kathleen Marguerita McGovern of Clifton and they were married in the St James and St John Catholic Church.

Life was simple, they worked hard – many locals will know Jack best from his time in the Allora Advertiser, and lots will know Kate as Mrs Gordon who taught for decades at the Allora State School.

Much has happened across 60 years of their partnership but both John and Kate would say that their family is their greatest achievement, their universe.

These days you are most likely to catch them basking in the sun on their front verandah in Warwick Street where they have lived almost their entire married life.

Congratulations on your 60th Wedding Anniversary, John and Kate!
