Cambooya time capsule to be revealed
The contents of a time capsule buried at Cambooya a quarter of a century ago will be revealed during this weekend’s Australia Day celebrations.
The capsule was buried as part of Australia Day celebrations at Cambooya Recreation Grounds in 2000.
It was placed into the ground by the Mayor of Cambooya Shire Council at that time, Cr Bob Free (who passed away in June 2023 in his 92nd year).
He was assisted by long-term Felton resident the late Alan Bryce and Alan’s daughter Iris, who is still a Felton resident.
Mr Bryce was 95 at the time.
The time capsule contains information and photographs provided by Cambooya Shire Council, Cambooya State School and other local organisations.
Toowoomba Regional Councillor and former Cambooya Shire Councillor and Mayor, Carol Taylor is hoping that as many people as possible who were in some way involved with the Cambooya district at the time of the capsule’s burial will be at Cambooya on Sunday to check out its contents.
She is urging anyone interested to be present at the Australia Day celebrations to see the capsule unveiled.
As a matter of interest, Cr Taylor began her local government career in March 2000, just a few months after the capsule was buried.
