Carol Lyall - New Show President
Allora Show Society loyalist Carol Lyall recently stepped forward to take on the President role of an organisation that can boast a presence in the Allora regional community since 1878.
After excelling as Chief Horse Steward for two years, Carol added the Show Society Vice-President role to her resume last year.
She is now looking forward to her President responsibilities and stepping in to the new Show year with a committee that offers enthusiasm, loyalty, teamwork and experience with a focus to advance one of our region’s great traditions, as well as advancing the high standards and growing popularity of the Showgrounds as a venue.
She is happy to say “I walk into this President position with open eyes, a little anxious, nervous and excited.”
Carol accepts “people don’t necessarily like change, however they voted for me, which I know they know means change and progression in a very good and positive way.”
It can be said the new President has big boots to fill following on from local Show Society legend, Life Member and recently announced Vice-President Shirley Cornhill, Shirley amassed an amazing 29 years at the Show Society helm.
“Whist Shirley is still part of our amazing team, we can’t thank her enough for all her years of service & dedication to the Allora Show Society” acknowledged Carol.
The Show Society benefitted tremendously from the immense equine knowledge, enthusiasm and direction when Carol joined the committee three years back, having played a leading role in improvements and new events advancing the showgrounds equine stage.
The Allora Showgrounds boasts horse event facilities among the best in the State with the capabilities to build on those qualities and host significantly major drawcards.
Having said that, President Carol has certainly learned in her initial period in the higher seats of the Show Society Executive Committee, the organisation encompasses so much more that is vital to the community and Society wellbeing.
The Show Society must continue to improve Showgrounds facilities when one considers blue ribbon events that are hosted such as the annual Show, the Allora Heritage Weekend, the Darling Downs Heavy Horse Festival, Camp drafts, Dressage and so many other equine events, other popular sporting uses along with accommodation and camping facilities for those looking to enjoy all Allora can offer all year round.
