Cambooya’s connection to the QCWA
A lady from Cambooya played a role in the founding of the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA), which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

At a meeting in August 1922, Ruth Beatrice Fairfax of Cambooya was appointed the first state president of the QCWA at Albert Hall in Brisbane.
She then travelled all around country Queensland for six months, where she helped to recruit women and established branches for the newly-formed association.
Mrs Fairfax was married to John Hubert Fraser Fairfax, a member of the famous Fairfax family.
The federal Division (electorate) of Fairfax, covering the central area of the Sunshine Coast, is named after her.
The Cambooya branch of the QCWA was founded in 1923 but is no longer active.
There also used to be branches in Westbrook, Wyreema and Nobby.
