Call for knitters to help children with trauma
The Red Cross is calling for people with knitting skills to help produce Trauma Teddies for children suffering from trauma.

The last few years have seen many families suffer the impact of bushfires, floods, Covid or other medical emergencies all contribute to trauma especially among children.
The children of refugee families escaping from conflicts are also often suffering from trauma.
Trauma Teddies are brightly coloured knitted teddies that give children suffering something to hold and comfort them when they need it most.
If you are interested in joining a Trauma Teddy knitting group in Westbrook call Erica Paynter, the Red Cross coordinator for Westbrook on 0401232148 or email ericapaynter@hotmail.com between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
Your interest can also be lodged on the Red Cross website.
Knitting patterns are available on the website or by contacting Erica.
Trauma Teddies are knitted with 8 ply wool only and without any attached buttons or other objects.
Knitters can produce pieces only with the stuffing done by other volunteers.
“Male or female knitters volunteering to join the group also benefit from the social interaction within the group and the satisfaction from knowing they are helping children,” Erica Paynter said.
Any interested persons need to register with Erica or the website and the first meeting is 5th October, with the venue to be confirmed.
