The hidden talents of local resident Merlene Konz were revealed at her book launch and art exhibition at Clifton Library earlier this month.

Guests were treated to a story reading, complete original illustrations and artworks by Merlene, and a Q&A session with wildlife carers Karina and Sonia Hill.

Karina is a veterinary nurse who, in her spare time, specialises in the rescue and rehabilitation of sick or injured koalas.

“You’re never too old to achieve your dreams,” was Merlene’s comment after spending nine months on this project and learning about the process of book creating, publishing, and illustrating.

Based on personal experience and a love of koalas since childhood, Merlene’s heartfelt story and carefully created illustrations of Kassie the Baby Koala will delight readers of all ages.

Merlene has generously pledged a percentage of her book sales to go towards the rehabilitation of sick or injured koalas in our local region.

If you find an injured koala, contact  one of the following carers:

High Country Koala Action Group 0437 734 556

Koala, Land and Wildlife Support 0427 969 860

Kiara Hill 0448 876 176

RSPCA 1300 264 625

Sending clear photos and location to the above will also assist with identifying koala habitats and populations.
