Broncos come to town
Oakey and Jondaryan State Schools were the subjects of visits by the Brisbane Broncos
Brisbane Broncos ambassadors Jharal Yow Yeh, Sam Thaiday and Andrew McCullough travelled to Jondaryan State School from Brisbane and were accompanied by emerging players Israel Leota and Cameron Bukowski.
There, they ran games and encouraged the Jondaryan children to become more active.
After encouraging children to pick their own team names for an activity, Mr McCullough was jokingly scathing towards one particular group of students who named themselves ‘New South Wales’!
Afterwards, the touring party moved on to Oakey State School, where they were joined by Broncos NRLW star and former Oakey State School captain Shenae Ciesiolka.
Ciesiolka was a popular guest at Oakey, and indulged multiple requests for autographs.
The visit was organised by coal seam gas company Arrow Energy, which is a partner of the Brisbane Broncos.
As part of its long-term partnership, Arrow is bringing current and former Broncos players to the region for a series of school visits to promote positive habits and education.
Arrow Energy Community Officer Jayne Weier said the visits offered local students a unique opportunity to meet some of Australia’s top athletes and learn from their experiences.
“Our commitment to creating healthier, stronger communities in the areas where we operate aligns perfectly with these visits, which encourage healthy habits and a strong focus on education,” Weier said.
“The students’ excitement when they meet the players is incredible, and the chance to hear advice from athletes they admire is invaluable.”
The visit to Jondaryan and Oakey had been preceded by trips to Dalby State School and Our Lady of the Southern Cross College, Dalby the day prior.
Dalby Principal Mona Anua said her students were eagerly anticipating the Broncos’ return.
