The line for brekky led all the way to the footpath on Friday morning as families gathered outside Bottle Tree Hall at the state school to enjoy a free barbecue breakfast.

Also present and lending a hand were representatives from McLean Farms who are one of Sunny Queen Australia’s suppliers.

Calling themselves the ‘Food for Families Regional Roadshow’, the team from Foodbank Queensland and Sunny Queen Australia have initiated a school breakfast program with the mission of giving hungry children a healthy breakfast.

Present on the day, Sam Gallagher of Foodbank explained that the breakfast program provides not only a nutritious meal but helps kids to have better focus and concentration, improving their learning outcomes
and physical and mental health.

She further commented that they understand the current cost of living is
hurting a lot of Queenslanders but emphasised the importance of everyone having access to food.

After breakfast, the roadshow travelled to Millmerran State School where students assisted in unloading hampers with non-perishable food items for distribution in the school community.

Making a round trip, they returned to Pittsworth in the afternoon to deliver 70 hampers at Harvest New Life church.

These will be given to local school chaplains to be distributed.

Pastor Brett Dolley of Harvest New Life hopes they can reach out to surrounding schools such as Southbrook State School and Brookstead State School, that they might also be able to benefit from their supply.

The Foodbank Queensland and Sunny Queen Australia volunteers travelled from Grantham State School where they had been earlier in the week.
