Australia Day celebrations invitation only
Following a decision by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) to endorse invitation-only award presentations as the preferred option for Australia Day, Pittsworth’s Australia Day Committee has followed suit, with celebrations this year at Pittsworth Town Hall at 9am, invitation only.
Pittsworth’s Australia Day celebrations this year were to be held on Wednesday January 26th from 7.30am to 11.30am at the Pittsworth Town Hall and Centenary Park.
The Committee has chosen to invite only the nominees and their immediate family under guidance from TRC.
Deputy Mayor Geoff McDonald will be in attendance to hand out awards.
This year there are six Australia Day Awards that will be presented on the day.
The following individuals and groups have been nominated:
Citizen of the Year – Jaimie Fing, Megan Smith and Brenda Prentice
Community Group/ Event – Pittsworth Amateur Theatrical Society (for their performances of ‘We Will Rock You’), Ride for Baz’s Evie (Charity Campdraft), Pittsworth District Alliance and Garden of the Downs and Surrounds (for the Showcasing Pittsworth weekend), and the Craft and Fine Food Spectacular.
Cultural Award – Pittsworth Amateu Theatrical Society, Kirilly Mahon
Junior Sports Award – Jake Kinsey
Senior Sports Award – Rowena Briskey and Maxine Lovell
Young Citizen of the Year – Stephanie Quinn
At the Ordinary Meeting of Council on Tuesday, Toowoomba Region Councillors approved the preferred delivery of Australia Day to committees across the region.
The preferred delivery is to limit the event to organisers, officials, winners and the immediate family of winners, with a clause notifying organisers that they may postpone the event if they wish to do so.
Deputy Mayor Geoff McDonald also noted that public health directives from Queensland Health are subject to change at short notice and the current COVID surge is expected to begin peaking on 24 January, lasting for at least two weeks.
