A number of professional athletes and footballers made their way to Club Pittsworth on Saturday October 30 to compete in the 2021 Arthur Postle Gift race day.

The Arthur Postle Gift race day provided a fantastic opportunity to recognise the efforts of the famous Pittsworth sprinter Arthur Postle, also known as the Crimson Flash, who broke world records across multiple distances.

A number of races went ahead on Saturday, including professional foot running for 75 yards, 120 metres and 300 metres.

Additionally, professional footballers battled it out in 75 yard races to find the fastest female and male footballers on the downs.

Through the Queensland Athletic League (QAL) and local sponsors, $10,000 in prize money was given to competitors on the day.

While there was plenty of action on the race track, other activities were also being run for spectators.

For the children, a number of fun races and other activities kept them busy, including the Lego Movie 2 which was aired by Optus following the completion of the races.

NRL stars Ash Taylor and Shenae Ciesiolka were also there which excited many people who attended.

Darling Downs Health held a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Club Pittsworth in conjunction with the race day to give residents and those who went to the event the opportunity to get their Pfizer jab.

The clinic appeared to be a huge success, with many people lining up to get their first Pfizer dose.

Overall, the day not only encouraged young people to get involved in sport, but it also presented the community with the chance to come together for an afternoon of fun and entertainment.

More information about the Arthur Postle Gift race day, including photos, will be in the next edition of The Pittsworth Sentinel.
