Arthur Postle Gift race day approaching
Known as the Crimson Flash for his all-crimson running attire, Arthur Postle’s legacy will live on this month with the running of the third Arthur Postle Gift race day in Pittsworth.
Arthur Postle Gift organiser Greg Quinn said the race day was a great opportunity to recognise the efforts of the famous sprinter, who broke world records across multiple distances.
“After missing last year through COVID, we’re expecting a large crowd and a number of high-calibre athletes here this year for the third running of the event,” Mr Quinn said.
“Through the Queensland Athletic League and our local sponsors we have $10,000 in prize money to be won by competitors on the day.
“This event has proven in the first two years that it brings our community together, where fun activities keep the whole family entertained from 1pm to the final race under lights at around 7pm.
“Nominations close on 22 October for the seven professional running events over 75 yards, 120m and 300m.
“Amateur events for non professional athletes will also be held throughout the afternoon not requiring nominations.”
A new addition to the line-up this year will be the 75 yard Wagner’s Female and Male Fastest Footballer.
This race will see three male and three female athletes from touch football, rugby union, rugby league, AFL, football and a wild card compete for the title of the fastest footballer on the Darling Downs.
Racing as the wild card, Brisbane Broncos NWRL Premiership Winner and Australian squad member Shenae Ciesiolka said she was excited to be part of the inaugural event.
“I can’t wait,” she said.
“This is a great initiative and one that I could easily see replicated on a larger scale once people see how great the concept is.
“I encourage everyone to come out to Club Pittsworth and cheer on your favourite code of football.”
TRC Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr James O’Shea said Council was happy to support the event through the Sports Tourism Grant Program.
“An event of this nature will increase participation in sport, bring the community together and welcomes athletes from outside the Region,” Cr O’Shea said.
“For Pittsworth this event is unique as it remembers the heroics of Arthur Postle who walked from Pittsworth to Toowoomba and went on to be the fastest sprinter in the world.”
The Arthur Postle Gift race day will be held on Saturday 30 October from 1-7pm at Club Pittsworth.
