Army visit brings joy

Students from Oakey’s three schools were enthralled by the visit of an Army Aviation Tiger helicopter to Oakey State High School last week.

Oakey State High School Principal Danny Keenan thanked the personnel from the Base for attending and reminded the students that the Army team had facilitated a special experience out of their own good-will and time.

Defence recruiters from Toowoomba were overwhelmed by the number of children from the primary schools visiting their stall to take free merchandise in a sign that the visit had made a positive impact.

A non-functioning Tiger helicopter was transported down Campbell Street enabling the students a hands-on experience.

Following this, students from Oakey State High School, St. Monica’s School and Oakey State School made the trip to the oval to watch the show.

The pilot of the aircraft put on a magnificent display, demonstrating the Tiger helicopter’s agility to manoeuvre in a tight space over the school’s cricket pitch.

Students were stationed well back from the display on the side of the oval.

Teachers took many photographs on the day and it’s hoped this event will continue in the years to come.
