Arena revamp a testament to community collaboration
Even the best-maintained facilities require continuous care, and the grass arena at the Pittsworth Showgrounds is no exception.
After 30 years without a major overhaul, a dedicated effort has been underway since August 2023 to restore and enhance the arena, bringing it to the magnificent standard seen today.
The Pittsworth Campdraft Association has spearheaded these improvements, working tirelessly alongside local businesses and key user groups to ensure the arena remains in top condition.
The Association’s commitment, combined with financial and in-kind support, has been instrumental in this transformation.
Initially, the surface was treated with a sand and manure spread.
Following this, four B-Doubles of washed, sieved coarse sand, generously provided by the DDSJ Association after its rain-impacted Easter Showjumping Competition, were spread using Campdraft Association machinery.
The entire area was then aerated multiple times to enhance soil structure.
Next, 25 tonnes of gypsum, kindly sourced by Vary Agricultural Brookstead, were delivered to the grounds courtesy of McKinlay Earthmoving Pty Ltd.
Ashley Schelberg further contributed by donating his time and machinery to ensure even distribution across the arena.
This was followed by additional aeration and thorough watering.
To further enrich the soil, Organic Nutrients donated 24 tonnes of compost, with Mark Shaw generously covering transport costs.
Additionally, members of various user groups contributed fertiliser products.
A spray rig and herbicide treatments were used to manage unwanted weeds.
This remarkable achieve-ment highlights the power of teamwork, dedication, and the right resources.
In under two years, the arena has been transformed, a remarkable achievement that highlights the power of teamwork, dedication and the right resources.
Thanks to the unwavering efforts of the community, the Pittsworth Showgrounds arena now stands as a testament to what can be accomplished through collaboration and perseverance.
