Another big weekend of polo in Clifton

Over the weekend local and visiting teams took to the polo field at the Clifton Recreation Grounds, playing off in the 2023 Silvershop Bracelet Tournament.

A healthy crowd cheered on the teams across the weekend as players and their steeds battled it out to take the top spot in the competition.

Two grades of polo were played with local team Downs Hooper Accountants taking first place in the Bentleys Finance Queensland B Grade competition, beating rivals Downs Webster Cavanagh. 

Making up the winning Downs Hooper Accountants team were Phillipa Gilmore, Sandra Carder, Graham Mann and Damian Allport.

Four teams took to the field for the AEW Horse Walkers A grade competition with local team, Downs Black Toyota making it to the final, playing against visiting team AEC. 

A hard fought four chukkas followed with both teams displaying their skill and determination to win on the field.

The winning team was made up of Steve Urquhart, Indi Bennetto, Jim Rawlings and Damien Johnson.

To wrap up the weekend pony prizes were awarded to some outstanding four-legged athletes on the field. 

The Bentley’s Finance Queensland B Grade Pony Prize was awarded to Request, owned by Thomas Hunt and played by Jasmin Rozing. 

The AEW Horse Walkers A Grade Pony Prize was awarded to Princess, owned by Steve Urquhart and played by Indi Bennetto. 

The Off the Track Champion Pony prize, sponsored by Edwards Saddleworld Toowoomba, was awarded to Razza (by Moscow Ballet) owned and played by James Hoey.

The Downs Polo Club extends its thanks to all players and spectators who attended the Silvershop Bracelet tournament over the weekend and would like to welcome all to the upcoming tournaments hosted in July at the Clifton Recreation Grounds. 

Join the Downs Polo Club for the Cooke O’Leary Cup on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July, the Sapphire Shield on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd July and the Downs Shield on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July.
