Angling Stalwart Calls It a Day
After a 38-year contribution as Secretary, loyal volunteer and angling devotee, Laurie Staines has stepped down from the committee of the Warwick, Clifton, Allora Fishing Club.

The club that has existed since 1959 held it’s well attended annual meeting and election of officers in Allora on Saturday afternoon, with reappointed President Graeme McMillan recognising the “outstanding duty” of Mr Staines across his time with the club.
In forty years of club membership, Saturday’s meeting was Mr Staines’ first absence apology, the meeting coinciding with a family event.
Mr McMillan and reappointed Treasurer Greg Patterson both initially took on their roles back in 1989, and so have also given tremendous lengthy service to the group.
Allora local Jon Constable was elected Secretary filling a hefty void given Mr Staines resignation.
Club stalwart George Marquard was reappointed club vice-president, while Chez Kahler remains Patron.
The management committee is Gary Crothers, Joe Saville, Keith Wilson and Ian Mundey, while the enthusiastic Max Sharpe continues as raffle promoter.
In his report Mr McMillan thanked the club membership, many of whom have volunteered in numerous fundraising ventures over the past year.
While sausage sizzles at Warwick’s Bunnings Hardware have provided tremendous monetary support, the club’s annual Christmas raffle also provides a vital financial boost.
The club boasts their own ‘fishing hut’ at sea side Jacob’s Well, a former Pimpama Railway Station Good Shed building that was relocated to its present site in 1964 and has undergone significant and continual upgrades.
The coming year will see the pursuit of further developments at the “Hut” to cater for member comfort, the ‘to do’ list including air conditioning, updates for floor coverings, solar panels, internal and external repainting awnings and various maintenance.
Mr McMillan also thanked business supporters Warwick’s Bunnings Hardware, Allora’s Blue Cow Hotel, Allora Butchery and Maydan Feedlot.
