An emotional goodbye for Ramsay’s Year 6s
School staff, students and parents gave an emotional goodbye to the graduating class of 2024 as they conclude one stage of their educational journey and prepare for High School.
School staff launched a special Year Six program, Journeys of Growth and Greatness that celebrates leadership, exploration and creativity.
To mark the milestone the community and staff have come together to make the students’ final year a memorable one.
Beginning with a Leadership Conference, where students sharpened their leadership skills for the year ahead, they then enjoyed senior breakfast with the principal before attending a Mayoral Morning Tea with the Toowoomba Councillors and engaging with other young leaders from the region.
Students also spent a day with a professional artist, creating artwork reflecting their primary school journey.
A boat trip on a fishing trawler to Stradbroke Island a few weeks ago proved to be very memorable for a few of the five graduating students as it was their first time on a boat.
The graduating students concluded their last day at primary school with an emotional walk up the Ramsay Hill towards their school as they discovered hidden “boxes of memories” prepared by parents and staff.
In the boxes they found old pictures of themselves in younger grades and letters from parents and staff.
The well thought out program covered all bases and is sure to have left a lasting impression on the students, who will no doubt in years to come realise how lucky they were to have attended school at the top of the Ramsay hill.
This is what the departing students had to say:
Kane: I was so excited, I got to open letter from teachers and parents and read some beautiful notes from them all, I loved the Gatorades wearing the black Graduation Hats, I drank all mine straight up, I loved it when all the younger kids set up with pistols and sponges as we came in the gates, It was so refreshing.
Bianca: As we rushed home from the tournament at the Gold Coast, I started to cry. I knew I was leaving but it hadn’t sunk in that I was leaving for always. I loved the 4.5 ks hike with my special friends.
Ryan: I loved reading the letters especially the one addressed to me with a picture of my funny friend Thuckuna. The hike was very tiring but lots of fun with my special friends for the last time. The water showered on us from the rest of the school was refreshing and amazing.
Chase: I liked getting all the special presents. Maccas was great for morning tea, I liked seeing our names on posts like at Winterbothams. I’m sad to leave Ramsay but ready to move on. The little kids held big water fights and really wet us. It was a fun way to go out.
Ashton: It was a great 4 and a half ks hike with my special friends. I loved the gifts. It was so special with this group of friends looking at the photos with my friends over the years.
