Construction at Allora’s first roundabout at the intersection of Forde and Warwick streets is scheduled for the 2025-26 financial year.

The installation of the new roundabout was announced by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in September 2022.

A TMR spokesperson said the Queensland Government has committed funds through the Safer Roads Sooner program to design and construct safety upgrades at the Warwick and Forde streets intersection.

“TMR is in the process of finalising the detailed design for the upgrades and construction is scheduled for the 2025-26 financial year,” the spokesperson said.

When the roundabout was announced, TMR Southern Queensland Regional Director Bill Lansbury said there had been several crashes at the intersection in recent years.

“An analysis of the crash history highlighted the need to improve safety at the intersection for both town-based traffic and traffic travelling through the town,” Mr Lansbury said.

“The proposed roundabout will further improve safety by introducing consistent give-way controls and moderating traffic speed,” Mrs Lansbury said.

“Motorists from every direction will slow down as they approach the intersection and give way to the roundabout.”

Earlier this month, during National Road Safety Week, Minister for Transport and Main Roads Bart Mellish said Safer Roads Sooner projects totalling $72.6 million will be rolled out at specific locations, such as at Allora,  where crashes causing death or serious injury have occurred or are a significant risk.
