A grand day out
The Bush Chooks & Roosters Community Cook Up event at Bracknell Lodge on Saturday August 28 promises to be day filled with fun, between markets, live music and plenty of food, all to raise funds for a good cause.
Funds raised from the event will go to Tony’s Community Kitchen, a charity based in Toowoomba that provides meals, a shower and laundry facilities year-round for the homeless.
Mrs Rebecca Knudsen, owner of Bracknell Lodge, said she was inspired to run the event after seeing and hearing about the ongoing serious housing shortage.
“I wanted to help get families off the street,” Mrs Knudsen said.
“I thought we could get some funds together to purchase caravans, putting people out of cars and parks.
Mrs Knudsen said as a parent, children living in parks was especially horrifying for her.
Helping out Tony’s Community Kitchen is important to Mrs Knudsen as it is a charity she has supported for many years, by providing them with meals and personal care items.
The Community Cook Up event itself is set to be a jam-packed day of entertainment, highlighted by a campfire cook off with $2,000 in prizes available.
The public has the opportunity to vote on which team has the best food.
Ten teams have already signed up to the campfire cook off with more sure to come.
There will be live music by Mid Life Crisis playing some rock ‘n’ roll classics and by Mick Oberle playing an assortment of country and rodeo greatest hits.
Mrs Knudsen said there will be a broad range of market stalls, from crafts and candles to sweets and plants and much more.
“There was a huge variety of stalls wanting to come to support a good cause,” she said.
Every person who goes through the gate is entered in a competition to win a lucky gate fuel voucher worth $1,000, donated by Wyreema Store.
A $1,000 cash prize is also available to the owner of the car there on the day voted by the public as the best.
Mrs Knudsen said there will be plenty of activities to keep the kids happy, including face painting a jumping castle and dancing.
All the day’s events, from 2pm to 11.45pm, are covered by a single ticket cost of $30 for adults and $10 for kids.
The price covers entry, sampling of food from the campfire cook off event, a drink and the entertainment.
