A celebration for Betty
A celebratory morning tea was held on Wednesday July 7 to congratulate Betty Denning OAM who was recently awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her service to the community of Pittsworth.
Margaret Small, who initiated Betty’s nomination for the prestigious award, organised the morning tea and invited family, friends and those who assisted with her nomination to help celebrate the momentous occasion.
Mrs Small said a lovely morning was had by all and Betty Denning OAM was very grateful for everyone’s support.
“It was a really lovely morning,” Mrs Small said.
“Betty was thrilled with it and I think her family was too.
“Betty has done so much for the community so it was nice to see her be the one sitting back and not doing something for a while.”
Mrs Small said Betty is the third person she has nominated for an OAM, and although it was a time consuming process, it was worth it to acknowledge her dedication and outstanding service to the community.
“I started rounding up information for Betty’s nomination in January 2019,” Mrs Small said.
“It wasn’t until May when we had all the information ready to send away.
“They then told us it would take approximately 18 months to hear if she was successful, but Betty’s actually took a little over two years for it to come through.”
“She well and truly deserved it.”
Mrs Small said a number of people helped her to make Betty’s nomination possible.
Betty’s daughter Marilyn White provided all the information needed and Ros Scotney OAM, Allan Petersen OAM, The Manager at Beauaraba Alex Metcalf, and Kev Loveday wrote supporting letters to accompany the nomination.
Jack Murphy, who was the President of the Show Society at the time, also helped to provide some details as Betty is a Patron of the Show Society.
