Born on 19th July 1924 in a house on Hamilton Road in the inner Brisbane suburb of Breakfast Creek, Freda was the second youngest of six girls and one brother.

Freda was a young child during the tough years of
the Great Depression and when she became old enough to work, became a tailoress along with her sister Elsie.

When World War II began, Freda was 15 years of age and so experienced the difficult years of strict food rationing as well as the experience of the nation under threat.

Freda met her future husband on a tram in Brisbane when travelling to work.

They fell in love and married in 1946 when she was twenty-two and soon started a family.

A son Al was born first followed by Graham, Louise  and Trevor.

The family spent time in Mossman in North Queensland as well as the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and finally settling down at 25 Maher Street, Zillmere, Brisbane.

Freda’s son Al said they were always well provided for and enjoyed her “signature” dish of spaghetti bolognese and steak and chips over many years.

Al said his mum found things tough after their Dad died and she took up work at Daffodil working nights shifts from 11pm to 7am and then returned to everyday chores to run and maintain the house.

He described her as an independent woman who lived happily in the same house for more than sixty years.

Freda has been blessed with six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and fourteen great great grandchildren.

Her connection to Clifton comes through her daughter Louise Bazley, a well-known local resident.

Al summed up the family’s love for Freda when he said, ”What a privilege to have you here today and what a treat to love you and what a joy to be loved by you”.

Happy birthday Freda.
