Pittsworth night tennis: Hares hop to top
Last week’s night fixtures final was a see-sawing match, with Hares eventually emerging victorious over Bilbies by just two games, 65 to 63.
As expected, front runners for the whole season Bilbies skipped to an early lead, up 25-19 after the first round of four sets.
Hares clawed back four games winning the middle round 24-20, and prevailed 22-18 in the last four sets, to finish two ahead.
Sets were shared six apiece.
Skipper Shaun and Steve won three set winners for Bilbies, as did Kate and Julianne for Hares.
Di and Greg (sub) tallied 20 games each for Hares, while Sam and Tim scored 19 for Bilbies.
Club president Bruce Von Hoff presented the trophies and thanked the captains and players for working around difficulties caused by player injuries and absences, particularly in the last two months.
Team captains Shaun, Bruce, Kurt and Chloe did a great job all year managing their teams.
Best wishes to all club members and their families for a safe and relaxing time over the holidays.
Night tennis will hit off again at the end of January.
The Brisbane International tournament runs from December 31 to January 7, while Melbourne’s Australian Open runs from January 14 to 28.
