Stalls included New Acland Coal, Oakey Information Centre’s Craft Shop, and the local Goombungee State School and Goombungee Girl Guides groups.

Entertainment was provided by Quinalow singing duo “Whiskey Business” (a.k.a Kieran and Kadi Lillis).

Alf Crighton from Oakey brought along a honey stall.

Shrugging off some ill-health, President Errol Luck stepped up to the plate and took part in the gumboot throwing contest.

The monster truck, lawn-mower racing and fireworks were major highlights for attendees.

Show Secretary Kylie Welke said it was a great day out and the Society had received positive feedback.

“A big thank you, as Errol always says, to the exhibitors who entered, the patrons who attended and the sponsors for their support,” she said.

“And to all the volunteers who do a wonderful job to actually put the event on.”

Former Mayor Paul Antonio officially opened the Show and long-serving member Loretta Voll from Haden was presented with life membership by Treasurer and fellow Life Member Wendy Motley.

Loretta said it was a tremendous honour to presented with the award.

When asked, she said she has been involved in the Show Society for several decades.

“I joined the Show Society in 1985, but have only been a cookery steward since 1996.

“I’ve been the Chief Cookery Steward since 2002, and been judging the last 10 years.

“I’ve been the fashion parade steward for a number of years and finally passed that to the younger members this year.

“I have represented the Society in the Dark Rich Fruit Cake competition and then sub-chamber at the Queensland competition.”

Loretta won Queensland’s best dark fruit cake in 2023.
